Project Hadar: CD Projekt Red utvecklar fortfarande original IP

Denna artikel finns tillgänglig på följande språk

CD Projekt Red, the renowned Polish game developer behind the globally acclaimed Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher series has set its sights on creating a groundbreaking new intellectual property (IP). This ambitious project, codenamed Project Hadar, will introduce players to an entirely original universe, featuring brand-new characters, settings, and stories. The studio, known for adapting popular works such as Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher novels and Mike Pondsmith's Cyberpunk tabletop RPG, is now embarking on its first wholly original concept.

Project Hadar was officially announced in October 2022, with CD Projekt stating that the game was being developed "from scratch”, GameSpot reports. At the time, the studio revealed that it was still in the "earliest stages of the creative process," focusing on building the foundational elements for the game. As of late 2024, only 18 developers are actively working on Project Hadar, a small fraction of the studio’s resources, as most of its team is dedicated to other major projects, including The Witcher 4 and a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.

While details about Project Hadar remain limited, the developers have made it clear what the game is not. In response to speculation, CD Projekt executive Michal Nowakowski confirmed on social media that the game is not a "cosmic horror in feudal Japan," leaving fans to continue guessing about the theme and setting. The codename "Hadar" itself offers little insight, as it could refer to various things, including a star in the Centaurus constellation or a fossil site in Ethiopia.

CD Projekt has not announced a release date or platforms for Project Hadar, nor have any trailers or teasers been shared. However, given the studio’s ongoing partnership with Epic Games, it is likely the game will be developed using Unreal Engine 5, which is already being used for The Witcher 4.

Project Hadar: CD Projekt Red Still Developing Original IP 1

Early Announcement

This new IP represents a significant step for CD Projekt, as it moves beyond its legacy of adapting existing works and ventures into creating a fully original game. Developer Maria Mazur expressed excitement about the project, emphasizing the opportunity for the team to invest their creativity and storytelling expertise into something entirely new.

Summary:

  • CD Projekt Red is creating Project Hadar, its first original IP, built entirely from scratch.
  • The game is in early development, with no release date or platforms announced yet.
  • Only 18 developers are currently working on the project as the studio focuses on The Witcher 4 and other major titles.

Fans eager to learn more about Project Hadar will likely have to wait, as CD Projekt has indicated that their current focus is on other high-priority projects. While the timeline for Project Hadar remains uncertain, this bold new venture signals the studio's commitment to pushing boundaries and expanding its creative horizons.
