The closer we get to Resident Evil Requiem's release, which is set for February 27, the more we’re getting the first reviews of Capcom’s next installment. And we can see the studio made one of the best games of 2026 so far.

According to the reviews from various gaming publishers, Resident Evil Requiem is bringing a great balance between action and horror, as the game allows the players to feel different gameplay for Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy. Also, Requiem is having a lot of references to previous Resident Evil titles, and it’s already called Game of the Year so far. You can check some of the detailed reviews below:

GameRant – Dalton Cooper – 10/10

Resident Evil Requiem’s gripping story and intoxicating gameplay blend are wrapped up in a perfectly-polished experience with eye-popping graphics and a blood-pumping soundtrack. Resident Evil Requiem is a horror gaming masterpiece and one of the best games Capcom has ever made. It’s the ultimate Resident Evil game and will be remembered as fondly as the franchise favorites in the years to come.

Requiem is yet another powerful Resident Evil experience that conveys an enormous desire to follow this series. The two sides of Resident Evil are explored with thrilling effectiveness to achieve a very entertaining game that is a pleasure to play over and over again.

Requiem is a game that is built on the backs of everything that’s come before it, utilizing what works and learning from what didn’t. It makes for some of the most fun I’ve had in Resident Evil and feels like you’re playing a highlight reel of the best moments in the series. It’s a superb way to round off storylines and makes revisiting Raccoon City feels like a worthwhile venture and not something that treads on precious memories. Requiem has now made it into my top Resi games and will be a game I’ll replay almost as much as RE4. Almost.

GamesRadar – Jasmine Gould-Wilson 4.5/5

A soaring piece of survival horror theater that balances intense action with absolute terror across two heroes, and I can't pick a favorite. But while Resident Evil Requiem is my new favorite game in the series, it might not be one I replay as much as others. Now over halfway through my second Requiem playthrough, nothing has come close to that first fresh-eyed experience. There are multiple moments of nostalgic overwhelm that, as a Leon superfan whose first ever Resi game was Resident Evil 2, drove me to actual tears. On a repeat run, I'm still taken by the beauty of certain setpieces and the fine details therein, but I find myself chasing the dragon from time to time on hunt to recapture that earth-shattering crescendo.

IGN – Tristan Ogilvie – 9/10

Like the result of an experiment conducted in an underground Umbrella Corporation lab, Resident Evil Requiem successfully splices two separate strains of survival horror together into the one highly infectious new mutation. It signals the return of a series legend and the arrival of a likeable new lead, amps up the gore to a new stomach-turning standard, and unleashes a scarier breed of zombie alongside some truly beastly boss fights. The lack of any meaningful side content like The Mercenaries mode is a touch disappointing, and I do wonder if a slightly more consistent balance could have been struck with the ebb and flow from jaw-clenching moments of tension to all-out assault, rather than frontloading the story with frights before giving way to a more bullet-riddled back half. Even so, from my first trembling steps into its shadows all the way to the tremendous, titan-sized takedown at its climax, Resident Evil Requiem kept me completely absorbed and consistently entertained whether it was all hair-raising or all guns blazing.

When taken in isolation, Resident Evil: Requiem is fantastic, and a genuinely brilliant entry into the mainline series. It’s still straddling that line between fear and power, and while Grace might not have Leon’s roundhouse kicks and one-liners, she can always fall back on the Requiem. It’s a game designed to challenge you, not pull your last precious hairs from your head (unless you try Insanity difficulty). Capcom has once again delivered a polished and beautiful Resident Evil game, it’s just not quite amongst the best.

As expected, Capcom has made one of the best Resident Evil ever and surely one of the best video games of 2026. Thankfully, the reviews don’t give us the spoilers of game’s story and which characters are returning. But you can check which characters might appear in Resident Evil Requiem here.
