LG Electronics has officially introduced what is being called the world’s first native 1000 Hz gaming monitor, pushing competitive display technology to a completely new level. The new LG UltraGear 25G590B features a 24.5-inch Full HD panel capable of running at a true 1000 Hz refresh rate without relying on lowered resolutions or software-based tricks.

The announcement instantly sparked major discussion across gaming and esports communities. Over the last decade, gaming monitors evolved rapidly from standard 60 Hz displays to 144 Hz, 240 Hz, and eventually 500 Hz esports-focused panels. But a jump to 1000 Hz feels far beyond what most players expected to see this soon.

At the same time, many gamers are asking one obvious question: who actually needs a 1000 Hz monitor?

The biggest limitation is current PC hardware. Even the most powerful gaming systems today struggle to consistently deliver 1000 frames per second in real gameplay scenarios. Competitive titles like Valorant, Counter-Strike 2, or Overwatch 2 can reach extremely high frame rates under optimized conditions, but maintaining 1000 fps is still unrealistic for most players.

Because of this, some users online see the monitor more as a technological showcase than a truly practical gaming product. Critics argue that professional esports players already compete successfully on 240 Hz or 500 Hz displays, making the jump to 1000 Hz feel unnecessary.

Still, higher refresh rates do provide measurable advantages. Faster displays reduce input latency, improve motion clarity, and make aiming feel smoother during rapid movement. In competitive gaming, even tiny reaction-time improvements can matter, especially at the highest professional level.

The monitor also reflects a larger trend within the gaming hardware industry. Manufacturers increasingly compete by pushing technical limits beyond what mainstream users actually need. Refresh rates, response times, GPU performance, and display technologies continue evolving aggressively as brands fight for attention in the premium gaming market.

LG’s decision to keep the monitor at Full HD resolution is also intentional. Running games at higher resolutions like 1440p or 4K while targeting extreme frame rates would be nearly impossible with modern hardware. By focusing on 1080p, LG is clearly targeting hardcore esports players who prioritize performance and responsiveness over graphical detail.

Some analysts believe products like this are designed more for the future than the present. Hardware continues improving rapidly, and what seems excessive today may become normal several years from now. Competitive gaming technology often evolves ahead of what average players can fully utilize.

The UltraGear 25G590B is expected to launch during the second half of 2026, giving the PC hardware market time to catch up. Future graphics cards, processors, and optimization technologies could eventually make ultra-high refresh rate gaming more realistic.

For now, the monitor represents both an impressive engineering achievement and a reminder of how extreme the esports hardware race has become. Whether gamers truly need 1000 Hz today remains debatable, but LG has already succeeded in creating one of the most talked-about gaming displays in the industry.
