Nya Witcher-trilogin får inga stora expansioner som Hearts of Stone och The Blood and Wine

CD Projekt RED did a tremendous job on a worthy conclusion to the story of Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - and it became especially so largely thanks to such story expansions as Hearts of Stone and The Blood and Wine. Apparently, we should not expect anything similar in the next installments of the franchise.

CDPR joint CEO Michał Nowakowski recently spoke with GamesRadar+, where he discussed the details of the development not only of The Witcher 4 but of the entire new trilogy. As is known, CD Projekt RED plans to release three new games in the series over six years, and this will be the reason why these games will not receive story expansions comparable in size to Hearts of Stone and The Blood and Wine, as was the case with the third game. To the question 'Given the very ambitious project pipeline, does the company see room for developing expansions for the new Witcher saga?' Nowakowski replied as follows:

“As you mentioned in the question, the plans are pretty ambitious. Specifically, it's to release three Witcher games within a six-year period. It would be difficult, to be very honest, for us to add an expansion to the upcoming trilogy. This is where we are here and now with this particular issue.”

Recently, CD Projekt RED also announced a new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt called Songs of the Past, which had long been rumored. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but during a stream dedicated to the anniversary of The Blood and Wine, the developers teased that the DLC events might be related to Belleteyn Night —the night when the boundary between worlds disappears—with the focus on a mysterious third sword depicted in the expansion's concept art. By the way, fans noted that the sword sheath Geralt is holding in the image strongly resembles the one Ciri carries in The Witcher 4 trailer. Considering that Songs of the Past will serve as a kind of handing over of the baton to Ciri and lay the groundwork for the fourth game, this detail makes sense.
