CounterSide meddelar nedläggning, men Studio Bside lovar en omstart

Studio Bside has announced that its urban fantasy turn-based RPG CounterSide will officially shut down on August 26, 2026. The game, which first launched in February 2020 before receiving a global release in 2022, will close alongside its offline community space, Cafe Strega.

CounterSide Is Preparing to End Service

CounterSide became a beloved title among gacha RPG fans thanks to its stylish Live2D artwork, memorable soundtrack, and story-driven urban fantasy setting. Over the years, the game built a loyal community that praised its characters, atmosphere, and narrative direction.

However, signs of trouble appeared earlier this year. Content updates ended on April 29, 2026, and Head Producer Hyunsoo Kim stepped down from the project.

Studio Bside CEO Ryu Geumtae later confirmed the shutdown through an official announcement, explaining that the team had reached the difficult decision to pause the story of CounterSide after extensive internal discussions.

Players Can Still Log In Before Shutdown

Following the latest maintenance, downloads and in-app purchases have already been disabled. However, existing players can continue accessing the game until the official end-of-service date.

As a farewell gift, Studio Bside is giving players 300 Admin Coins daily through the in-game mailbox. These can be used to purchase items from special shop packages before the game closes.

The developers have also confirmed that refunds will be available, with more details to be shared at a later date.

A Reboot Project Is Planned

While the shutdown is disappointing for longtime fans, CounterSide may not be gone forever. Studio Bside has confirmed plans to bring the game back through a future reboot project.

According to the developers, the team intends to revisit the foundations of CounterSide and rebuild the experience around what the game was always meant to be: a hard-boiled urban fantasy RPG.

For many fans, this offers a small but meaningful sense of hope. Although the original version of CounterSide is coming to an end, its world, characters, and story may return in a renewed form after a period of reorganization and development.
