Originally set for 2025, Fable 4 will now launch in 2026, Xbox Game Studios confirmed. However, new gameplay footage debuted on the official Xbox Podcast, showcasing Albion’s world, combat, and the series’ signature humor.

Xbox Game Studios lead Craig Duncan announced that Fable 4 will now launch in 2026 instead of 2025. Speaking on the official Xbox Podcast, Duncan explained the delay:

We are actually going to give Fable more time. It’s going to ship in 2026 now. While I know that’s not maybe the news people want to hear, what I want is to assure people that it’s definitely worth the wait.

The long-awaited RPG, first announced in 2020, is being developed by Forza Horizon studio Playground Games.

New Fable footage teases magic, combat, and… chicken kicking

Although the delay is disappointing, Xbox softened the blow with fresh Fable 4 gameplay footage during the podcast. Clips showcased a stunningly detailed city, vast open landscapes, spellcasting, and melee combat. One moment in particular caught fans’ attention, a return of the iconic Fable tradition: of kicking chickens into the sky.

Duncan didn’t reveal much else but assured fans that the game “felt amazing” when he played it, emphasizing Playground’s passion for the series:

Just think of the visuals of what you expect from Playground Games, plus amazing gameplay, British humor, Playground’s version of Albion.

The RPG lineup remains stacked for 2025

Despite Fable 4’s delay, RPG fans still have plenty to look forward to in 2025. Major releases include Avowed, Rise of the Ronin, Borderlands 4, Elden Ring: Nightreign, and The Outer Worlds 2.

With another year of development ahead, expectations for Fable 4 are high. Fans will have to wait a little longer to return to Albion, but if Playground delivers, it could be worth every extra minute.
