Riot Games has confirmed that 2XKO, its upcoming League of Legends-based fighting game, will launch with just 10 playable champions—a surprisingly lean roster compared to genre standards.

Game director Shaun Rivera explained in a Q&A with fighting game creator Sajam, as well as in the game’s official Discord, that Riot's focus is on getting the game out faster rather than holding back for a higher character count.

“I know it seems like a low number. I know. Trust me, y'know, we hear it,” Rivera said. “We’d rather just get the game out to y’all to play ASAP.”

Rivera emphasized that while the roster may be small, systems like Fuses and Solo/Duo play offer a variety of ways to experience each character. He also reassured fans that 2XKO is a live service game, meaning more champions will roll out post-launch.

“The champion train is gonna start once we're out the door,” he added.

Executive producer Tom Cannon highlighted how much the team has refined existing characters throughout development. He pointed to Jinx, who’s evolved notably since the first 2XKO trailer, as a showcase of the team’s commitment to quality.

2XKO: League of Legends Fighting Game Will Launch With Just 10 Characters 1

So far, the confirmed roster includes:

  • Ahri
  • Ekko
  • Yasuo
  • Darius
  • Illaoi
  • Braum
  • Jinx

That leaves three more champions to be revealed ahead of the launch. Unfortunately, Katarina, previously seen in early footage, has been cut from the initial lineup.

2XKO is a 2v2 tag-team fighting game that brings together fan-favorite champions from the League of Legends universe in fast-paced, strategic combat. Players choose two characters to form a team, switching between them mid-match to unleash dynamic combos and tactical plays. With a focus on mobility and creativity, the game features mechanics like dashes, air dashes, parries, and push blocks. Each champion offers a unique playstyle—whether it’s Ahri’s zoning, Darius’s raw power, or Ekko’s time-based trickery—while the Fuse system deepens customization by letting players tweak team synergies to match their strategy.

Developed by Riot Games alongside Radiant Entertainment, 2XKO has been designed to evolve over time as a live service game. Despite launching with just 10 playable characters, Riot aims to prioritize quality and early access over quantity, promising regular updates post-launch. The smaller roster allows for polished mechanics and a smoother rollout in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Originally revealed as Project L, the game has impressed in early previews and continues to build momentum with public Alpha Labs and deep community engagement.

While 10 characters is slim (for context, Street Fighter 6 launched with 18, and Dragon Ball FighterZ with 24), 2XKO has still earned praise in early previews. Players will get another look during the next Alpha Lab playtest, happening April 18–20 for the US, Canada, and Brazil.

No official release date yet, but it looks like Riot is favoring a “launch small, grow big” strategy.
