Epic Games has introduced a countdown timer in the Fortnite lobby, confirming that server downtime for the next season is expected to end at 7 AM ET on March 19. This marks the transition from Chapter 7 Season 1, which launched in late November following The Simpsons mini-season and brought a brand-new map to the game.

With each Fortnite chapter typically divided into four seasons lasting several months, the arrival of Season 2 comes right on schedule. As the launch approaches, Epic has begun teasing what’s ahead. So far, Dark Voyager and the Ice King have been revealed as the central antagonists, while The Foundation—portrayed by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson—is set to return. Fans analyzing trailers have also speculated about new additions, including a Rift Sniper weapon and a themed location called Frigid Fortress.

The newly added countdown removes much of the usual uncertainty around server availability. Downtime is expected to begin around 4 AM ET, with Epic aiming for a relatively short three-hour maintenance window before servers go back online.

While players have long known that Season 1 would end on March 19—thanks to the Battle Pass timer—server return times are typically unclear. This time, however, the exact relaunch window has been communicated in advance, giving players a clearer schedule for jumping into the new season.

Despite the excitement, the launch may not be without controversy. Some players have expressed frustration over recent V-Bucks price increases and have announced plans to boycott the game on release day. Others intend to keep playing but avoid making purchases until changes are addressed.

For those planning to buy V-Bucks or subscribe to the Fortnite Crew Pack, it may be worth doing so before the new season begins. Pricing changes will take effect alongside Season 2, meaning higher costs and reduced benefits for purchases made after launch. Meanwhile, Save the World Founders will still be able to earn V-Bucks through daily and timed missions, and with the Battle Pass becoming cheaper, reaching the required amount should be easier than before.
