Den sista vaktmästaren – senaste uppdateringen: Laserhajar, följeslagarrobotar och rymddiplomati

Channel37's oceanic survival sim The Last Caretaker released its third major update since its alpha launch in November, and Curiosity Wakes makes the game's tonal range harder to pin down than ever. What started as a premise about an android recovering the last human seeds from a flooded post-apocalyptic Earth, reactivating the Lazarus Complex, and launching humanity to the stars has now produced its most eccentric addition yet: sharks with laser beams attached to their heads.

The Last Caretaker on Steam currently offers a recently upgraded demo that expands the starting area and adds more explorable regions before requiring a purchase — a timely entry point given the scope of what Curiosity Wakes brings. The laser sharks join two other new hostile variants: ram sharks and archangels. The first category is self-explanatory by name. The second is less clear, but given the game's existing pattern of escalating hazards, the encounter is unlikely to be gentle.

Players no longer face these threats alone. The update introduces two deployable NPC companions. The first, called the Sweetheart, is a mobile gun turret with a cat face. The second lets players craft swarms of spiderbot-like creatures to overwhelm enemies through numbers rather than individual firepower. Channel37 has given both distinct roles — one stationary and defensive, one swarming and aggressive — without overlapping their functions.

Curiosity Wakes extends beyond combat. Robot customization options arrive for the first time, giving players the ability to alter their automaton protagonist's appearance. Several new quests and additional locations expand the exploration layer, while further performance optimizations address the kind of background issues that accumulate during extended early access development. Most intriguingly, the update introduces the Council of Humanity — a terminal that lets players contact the humans who were previously launched into space via the Lazarus Complex. What actions those space-bound survivors can perform through the terminal, Channel37 has chosen not to specify. Players will encounter it in the game before they encounter an explanation.

This is the third substantial update since the November alpha, and the pace has been consistent. The February update added a jetski and two new biomes. December 2025 brought a forklift and a compost system for generating biofuel. The additions are varied enough to suggest Channel37 is building toward something layered rather than padding a single central mechanic.

I find the game genuinely meditative in stretches — the kind of unhurried experience that survival sims can deliver when they stop pushing urgency at every interval. The core loop of recovering resources, maintaining the robot, and working toward the rocket launch carries a quiet weight that most action-forward games don't attempt. The limitation, as I see it, is that once the rocket launches and humanity departs, the central mission resolves and the world risks emptying of purpose — a common ceiling for this genre's narrative arc. The Council of Humanity mechanic is interesting precisely because it suggests Channel37 has thought about what comes after. A line of communication to the people you saved, with actions they can perform remotely, is a structural answer to that post-launch vacuum. Whether it fills the gap depends on what those actions turn out to be.

The Last Caretaker launched into early access in November 2025, with Channel37 stating at the time that it would remain there for at least a year while the studio built toward a polished final release. Three major content updates within roughly four months suggest the development schedule is holding. The Curiosity Wakes update adds enough distinct systems — companion types, customization, the Council terminal — that each has room to expand in future patches rather than arriving complete.

The upgraded demo on Steam gives new players a broader sample of the game before committing. Channel37 has not announced a timeline for the fourth update.
