CD Project RED bekräftade att Ciri kommer att ha romanser i The Witcher 4

In the context of The Witcher 4 game series, the relationships Geralt forms have often been mostly for entertainment purposes, except for certain plot elements in the third installment, Wild Hunt. Since the developers are actively working on The Witcher 4—the first game in a new trilogy featuring a new but familiar protagonist, Ciri—the studio has confirmed that romantic relationships will also be present in the game and, it seems, they will be more important than ever before.

In a interview with GameSpot, game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Małgorzata Mitręga confirmed that romantic relationships will play a significant role in The Witcher 4. Moreover, the studio aims to make these relationships "super compelling and very meaningful." It seems the developers want these relationships to have a deeper impact on the storyline and Ciri's personal life, rather than just being a side activity limited to a few cutscenes.

Romances in The Witcher 4 will be deep, meaningful, and super compelling, says CD Projekt RED.

CD Projekt RED has confirmed that romance will return in The Witcher 4, but the studio wants it to be much more than just optional love interests.

Game director Sebastian Kalemba said romance is an important part of how the studio tells stories and that they want relationships to be “super compelling and very meaningful.”

Executive producer Małgorzata Mitręga also said romance is an important part of life and storytelling, so they don’t want to add it just for the sake of having romance options.

What this could mean:

More developed relationships instead of short romances.

Choices that could have emotional consequences, similar to some of the best storylines in The Witcher 3.

More focus on Ciri’s personal life

More complex relationships, possibly inspired by how Ciri is portrayed in the books.

Based on CD Projekt RED’s previous games, it looks like the studio wants romances to feel like a natural part of the story rather than separate side content.

The Witcher 4 is currently CD Projekt RED’s top priority, with around 500 employees working on the game —twice the number involved in developing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Furthermore, the studio has recently strengthened its team by bringing in several highly skilled professionals:

  • Felix Pedulla, formerly a Senior Cinematic Artist at Larian Studios (known for Baldur’s Gate 3), is now a Senior Cinematic Designer at CD Projekt RED.
  • Jacqueline Kate Salsman, previously a Senior Combat Designer at Santa Monica Studio (working on God of War Ragnarok), has joined CD Projekt RED as an Expert Gameplay Designer.
  • Judah Avery, who worked as a Combat Designer and Technical Combat Designer at Respawn Entertainment (Star Wars Jedi: Survivor) and Santa Monica Studio (God of War Ragnarok), is now a Gameplay Designer at CD Projekt RED.

In addition, the studio is actively working on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, Project Sirius—a multiplayer spin-off set in The Witcher universe—and its new IP, Project Hadar.
