Half-Life 2 kan nu spelas gratis i din webbläsare

A fan-made project has broughtHalf-Life 2 to web browsers, allowing players to experience Valve's legendary first-person shooter for free without downloading or installing the game. While browser ports of classic games have become increasingly common, this is one of the first fully playable web versions of Half-Life 2.

However, because the project is unofficial, its long-term availability remains uncertain.

Half-Life 2 Is Now Playable in a Browser

Originally released by Valve in 2004, Half-Life 2 is widely regarded as one of the greatest first-person shooters ever created. The game revolutionized the genre with its physics-based gameplay, memorable Gravity Gun, immersive storytelling, and groundbreaking visuals for its time.

Now, thanks to a fan project, players can jump into Gordon Freeman's adventure directly through a web browser using nothing more than a keyboard, mouse, and a stable internet connection.

Fan Project Recreates the Classic Experience

The browser version was created by developers known as Slqnt and 98006, members of the Webport.ing team, which has previously worked on browser adaptations of classic games.

The project runs surprisingly well on modern hardware and even includes a built-in command console, allowing players to customize various gameplay settings.

Players can also save and load their progress, making it possible to continue a playthrough across multiple sessions.

Some Features Didn't Make the Transition

Although the browser port successfully recreates most of the gameplay, one noticeable feature is missing.

Characters no longer display the expressive facial animations that helped make Half-Life 2 feel so lifelike upon its original release. While voice acting and body animations remain intact, NPCs appear noticeably less expressive because their faces remain largely static.

Despite this limitation, the project still offers a faithful recreation of one of gaming's most influential titles.

Official Version Still on Sale

The browser port arrives at a time when the official PC version of Half-Life 2 is also available at a significant discount on Steam.

Valve has reduced the game's price by 80%, allowing players to purchase it for under $2 until July 9. After the promotion ends, the game will return to its regular $9.99 price.

Given the unofficial nature of the browser project, many fans believe the web version could eventually face copyright action if Valve decides to intervene.

A New Way to Discover a Gaming Classic

Nearly six years have passed since Valve last released a new Half-Life title, and there is still no official word on the long-rumored Half-Life 3.

For players who have never experienced Gordon Freeman's journey, the browser version offers an accessible introduction to one of gaming's most celebrated franchises. At the same time, the official Steam release remains the most reliable way to experience the classic and support its creators.
