As it well known, Sony Interactive Entertainment took part in San Diego Comic-Con, where, alongside other studios, the company revealed details of upcoming projects. One of them was God of War: Laufey, the new franchise installment announced at State of Play this summer, and Santa Monica Studio wasted no time making a number of major announcements during the event.

The biggest one is the fans finally have a release date for God of War: Laufey, and they don’t have to wait too much - the game is set to launch on February 16, 2027. What's more, Santa Monica Studio confirmed the next installment will focus on Kratos and tie directly into the events of Laufey. Most likely, the game will set up his next adventure in some way, though the details remain unknown for now.

Creative head Cory Barlog confirmed God of War: Laufey launches February 16, 2027 for PS5 and revealed the next Kratos-led game is already in development for release after Laufey.

The two games are directly connected, with Laufey’s events leading into Kratos’ next chapter, making it a key part of the ongoing story rather than a standalone spin-off.

Earlier rumors suggested the next Kratos-focused God of War could be set in Egypt, and given that Laufey is meant to lay the groundwork for that project—and has already confirmed the Ancient Egyptian goddess Sekhmet's involvement—those rumors might well be onto something. Anyway, the studio hasn't revealed a setting for the new game yet, so for now it's still just speculation.

There is also a God of War Trilogy Remake in development, with T.C. Carson returning as Kratos. The game was announced this February at State of Play, but it's believed to still be in the early stages, with no release date yet. Meanwhile, Amazon is working on a God of War TV series, which will adapt the events of God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarok, though it was recently revealed Ryan Hurst will need to be recast as Kratos after sustaining a serious injury during filming. No word yet on who will take over the role, though part of the shoot has already wrapped.

God of War Laufey, the series next installment, is confirmed to release on February 16, 2027, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
