Looks like next week could bring one of the biggest deals the gaming industry has seen in a while. Electronic Arts, the company behind franchises like Battlefield, Need for Speed, Dragon Age, Dead Space, and EA Sports, is set to change ownership—and according to early reports, this deal involves a massive amount of money.

According to a new Engadget report, Electronic Arts has filed all the paperwork needed to go private next week. The deal is expected to close on August 4th, with a total value of $55 billion, setting an all-time record for the gaming industry. If everything goes as planned, EA's new owners will be the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners, together controlling 93% of the company. Meanwhile, EA's headquarters will stay in California, and Andrew Wilson will remain its CEO. You can check out EA's official statement on the matter below:

“As of July 30, 2026, all regulatory approvals required to complete the Merger have been obtained. Electronic Arts currently expects the Merger to close on or about the close of trading on August 4, 2026.”

This is undoubtedly a huge moment for Electronic Arts, one that could shape the studio's future significantly. However, there are chances layoffs could follow once the deal closes, which tends to happen in situations like this. On the other hand, the new owners might also choose to invest in and potentially revive EA's classic franchises, like Need for Speed, Dragon Age, or Dead Space. That's all just speculation for now, but fans would certainly welcome news like that.

As for Electronic Arts's upcoming projects, EA Sports FC 27, the newest entry in its football simulator series, launches this September. The developers recently showed off the first gameplay footage and, on July 31, shared detailed updates on career mode, which has gone through plenty of changes and received several new features. The studio has also confirmed plans to launch the 2027 Roadmap for Battlefield 6, revealing the key new features it plans to add to the game going forward.
