As the most anticipated game of 2026, GTA 6 is expected to deliver everything Rockstar's known for gameplay-wise; that part feels close to a given while also earning strong critical acclaim. However, some say the game's scores could actually come in lower than expected for a few specific reasons.

As social media users have spotted, Insider Gaming's team recently discussed the topic on their podcast, as GTA 6 inevitably comes up in most episodes. This time, the conversation centered on the game's likely Metacritic score, which the hosts predicted would land somewhere around 83 to 87. Their reasoning was that sky-high expectations might ultimately outpace what the game actually delivers.

They argue the game faces the 'Paris Syndrome' effect, where extreme hype creates an impossible standard, leaving even a great game vulnerable to public disappointment.

However, not everyone agrees with Insider Gaming's opinion. In the comments, several users pointed to Rockstar's track record, Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V (which sits at 97 on Metacritic), along with older titles going back to GTA III, none of which scored below 95. Whatever the outcome, Rockstar Games clearly knows what it's doing, and the sheer length of this development cycle suggests the studio is taking the time needed to build something that surpasses everything it's made before.

Rockstar also recently unveiled the game’s collector's edition, The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, and more GTA 6 details are expected next week as the game headlines the newest issue of Game Informer. As previously reported, coverage will focus on wildlife, the advanced weather system, and Leonida Keys itself across land, air, and sea.

Grand Theft Auto VI will release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
