Eurogamer kritiseras av spelare efter deras recension av Phantom Blade Zero

Denna artikel finns tillgänglig på följande språk

This week marks the release of Phantom Blade Zero—one of this year’s most anticipated RPGs from S-Game. The game has already received fairly high ratings from critics, which certainly put it in the running for “Game of the Year.” However, one influential media outlet has found itself embroiled in a controversy, as players are accusing it of bias.

This refers to Eurogamer, which gave Phantom Blade Zero a score of 60 out of 100. As a result, the game failed to earn a “Must-Play” rating on Metacritic. As social media users have noted, for some reason Eurogamer tends to give lower scores to other major titles from Chinese studios—Black Myth: Wukong and Wuchang: Fallen Feathers also received a score of 60, while Dragon Age: The Veilguard was rated 100 out of 100. In another post, attention was drawn to the fact that the media outlet gave similar scores to Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Control Resonant, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, and Final Fantasy Resonance—games that, in most cases, received much higher ratings from other gaming journalists and players alike.

Eurogamer really doesn’t seem to be a fan of Chinese games.

  • Phantom Blade Zero -60/100
  • Black Myth: Wukong -60/100
  • Wuchang: Fallen Feathers -60/100

And then Dragon Age: The Veilguard 100/100.

When it comes to Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the situation is particularly interesting, as the game was heavily criticized by players and franchise fans. Over the past week, the game has received some attention because Electronic Arts shut down BioWare, the series' developer. According to the studio’s former producer, Mark Darrah, EA did not allow BioWare to fully realize the potential of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, constantly changing the game’s concepts, reassigning staff to other projects, and so on.

As for Phantom Blade Zero, the game releases tomorrow, October 29, for PC and PlayStation 5. The game currently has 88 on Metacritic and 89 on OpenCritic (96% of critics recommend).
