Several popular gaming subreddits, including r/SteamDeck, r/MonsterHunter, r/WOW, r/PCGaming, and r/Nintendo, have implemented bans on posts linking to X (formerly Twitter). These actions are part of a broader trend across Reddit, where communities are blacklisting X content in response to growing dissatisfaction with the platform and its leadership.

The extent of these bans varies. For example, r/Nintendo and r/SteamDeck permit screenshots from X, while r/WOW has banned all X-related content, including images. Meanwhile, discussions about potential bans are ongoing in other major subreddits like r/Halo, r/RPG, r/Valorant, and r/AnimalCrossing, with many users voicing support for restrictions.

Moderators cite multiple reasons for the bans, including a decline in X's moderation standards, concerns over the platform's increasingly toxic content, and actions by X owner Elon Musk. Controversy surrounding Musk, including his attendance at President Trump's inauguration and a gesture interpreted as a Nazi-like salute, has fueled the backlash.

"This is something we've been contemplating for a little while," wrote Shock4ndAwe, a moderator for r/PCGaming. "X has become increasingly hateful, toxic, and less moderated, making us less comfortable with linking it to our subreddit."

Other subreddits, like r/WOW, have echoed these sentiments, pointing to "recent political events" and X's diminishing credibility as a news source. Similarly, r/MagicTCG reported overwhelming user support for a ban, citing "Nazi behavior from the owner."

The movement reflects growing concerns across online communities about platform ethics and content standards. As more subreddits consider joining the ban, the shift signals a larger reckoning within the digital gaming sphere regarding its relationship with controversial platforms.
