Edge of Memories: En ny JRPG från ett All-Star Development Team

Nacon has officially unveiled Edge of Memories, a brand-new JRPG from French developer Midgar Studio, featuring an all-star development team. The game is set in the same universe as Edge of Eternity but takes place on a completely different continent, promising a fresh story, new characters, and an innovative combat system.

A JRPG Crafted by Genre Veterans

While Edge of Eternity — released in 2021 — paid homage to classic turn-based JRPGs, Edge of Memories shifts towards real-time action combat, making it the most ambitious project from Midgar Studio to date. However, what truly sets it apart is the star-studded lineup of industry veterans contributing to its development.

Returning to compose the game's soundtrack is Yasunori Mitsuda—famed for his work on Chrono Trigger and Xenogears—this time joined by Mariam Abounnasr, who arranged music for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 & 3, and Emi Evans, the voice behind many beloved songs from NieR and NieR: Automata.

For character design, Raita Kazama, known for his work on Xenoblade Chronicles X, brings the game's world to life. Meanwhile, the story is being penned by Sawako Natori, a key writer from NieR and Drakengard. Finally, Mitsuru Yokoyama, a combat designer from Final Fantasy XV, is responsible for the real-time action system that will define the game’s battle mechanics.

A Shift from Turn-Based Combat to Action-Packed Battles

Unlike Edge of Eternity’sturn-based ATB system, Edge of Memories embraces fast-paced action combat. Players will control Eline, a warrior capable of executing powerful combo attacks with assistance from her party. She can also unleash a Berserker transformation, consuming a rage gauge to unlock devastating new abilities.

Set in Avaris, a world devastated by a deadly plague called Corrosion, the game promises an engaging story, deep character interactions, and intense battles, making it a must-play for fans of JRPGs.

Release Window & Platforms

Edge of Memories is set to launch in Fall 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. Fans eager to explore more of the Edge of Eternity universe or simply experience a JRPG crafted by some of the industry's finest talents won’t have to wait much longer.
