Ed Boon kan komma att antyda remasters av Mortal Kombat som kommer snart

Ed Boon, one of the creators of Mortal Kombat and head of NetherRealm Studios, regularly teases fans of the series, hinting at future announcements. His recent post was particularly exciting for fans of the franchise’s older titles, as it concerns potential remastered versions of some of the studio’s best games.

On his X account, Boon conducted a new poll asking users which game they’d most like to see remastered—MK Shaolin Monks or Mortal Kombat 9, released in 2011. As of now, the votes are split as follows: 51.4% for Shaolin Monks and 48.6% for Mortal Kombat 9.

“Which would you want to see "remastered" first?”

Mortal Kombat 9 is considered one of the best games in the franchise, having brought the fighting series back to its roots and laid a solid foundation for future entries in the series. But when it comes to the Shaolin Monks remaster, fans would undoubtedly love to see the game get a new lease on life in the form of a remaster or even a remake.

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks is the 2005 action-adventure video game and spin-off to the main franchise, where Liu Kang and Kung Lao travel across different worlds to prevent Shang Tsung’s plan to take over the Earthrealm. Unlike other Mortal Kombat titles, it’s not a fighting game but a beat 'em up co-op, which makes it a unique project in the franchise.

Recently, Max Huang, who played Kung Lao in the recently released Mortal Kombat II, has expressed his desire to star in the adaptation of Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, alongside Ludi Lin (Liu Kang). While it’s not more than a speculation for now, recent announcements from Ed Boon about potential remasters and the fact that soon we will see a lot of gaming presentations, like Sony’s State of Play (June 2) and Summer Game Fest (June 5-8), mean we can't rule out the possibility of a new Mortal Kombat game being announced—especially since Ed Boon has confirmed that work is underway on a new installment. However, it’s unclear whether this refers to a remaster of one of the older titles mentioned above or a potential Mortal Kombat 12.
