Bungies tillkännagivna maraton kommer att vara tillgängligt gratis i en vecka på PlayStation 5

Bungie recently confirmed that they are ending support for their online shooter Destiny 2, which caused quite a stir among fans. Largely, the players' dissatisfaction was related to the studio's new game, Marathon, released in March this year, and the developers made a statement regarding the project, which, in the context of the closure of support for Destiny 2, looks quite unusual.

The developers released a new blog in which they announced the launch of the second season for Marathon and revealed that the game will be free for all PlayStation 5 users for a one-week period. Everyone will be able to try the game from June 2 to June 9. In addition, Bungie also unveiled new features that await players in the second season of Marathon.

In particular, the game will receive a new map, an additional character class, and new seasonal challenges. To even the playing field among players, the developers also decided to completely reset the equipment process for everyone, but all progress accumulated during gameplay can be retained by purchasing the game. Additionally, Bungie has worked significantly on elements such as faction leveling speed, expanded storage, and other improvements that will noticeably affect the perception of gameplay.

Recent data from Alinea Analytics revealed that Marathon sales currently amount to only 1.5 million copies across all platforms, and since mid-March, only 300,000 copies have been sold. Despite the end of Destiny 2 support and confirmation that work on Destiny 3 is not currently underway, fans apparently are not very interested in Marathon, and perhaps a free week for PlayStation 5 owners and the start of a new season could improve the numbers.

Marathon is now available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
