Gears of War: E-Days påstådda budget på 400 miljoner dollar har bevisats vara falsk

Not long ago, shortly after the reveal of Gears of War: E-Day—first at the Xbox Games Showcase and then during a dedicated presentation focused specifically on the new game from The Coalition—insider Tom Henderson leaked information claiming that the game's budget exceeds $400 million. Naturally, this sparked a lot of interest among players. However, it seems that this figure may not be entirely accurate.

At least, that's what game journalist Jez Corden from Windows Central, who has his own insider sources, reports. Recently, he appeared on an episode of the YouTube podcast Rand al Thor 19, where he revealed that the $400 million budget figure for Gears of War: E-Day is false. He also added that The Coalition serves as the “technological glue for all of Xbox”. The studio isn’t just working on games, but also on “dev tools... on Unreal Engine... and a lot of stuff beyond just Gears of War”. In conclusion, Corden stated that part of the Gears of War: E-Day budget was "spread across Xbox’s entire portfolio of games," including titles that don’t even use Unreal Engine 5, such as Forza Horizon 6 and Fable.

Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel to the whole Gears of War saga, as it takes place 14 years before the original title, where we will see the first days of Emergence Day and focus on Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago. The game’s creative director Matt Searcy recently confirmed that E-Day will be the longest entry in the franchise's history, with a playtime exceeding 14 hours.

The release of Gears of War: E-Day is set for October 6 on PC and Xbox Series X/S. The PlayStation 5 version is reportedly ready, but at the last minute, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma decided to make the game an exclusive. Some fans even started a petition to have the game released on PS5, but it's unlikely to have any effect.
