Simu Liu ger positiv uppdatering om kommande Sleeping Dogs-adaption

In March 2017, a film adaptation of Sleeping Dogs—a game developed by United Front Games and released five years earlier—was officially announced. Last year, it came out that the project had gone through some major changes: Donnie Yen, originally set to play one of the leading roles, had left it, but in December of the same year, it was confirmed Simu Liu would take the lead role, with Timo Tjahjanto set to direct.

The announcement thrilled fans of the game, since it confirmed Simu Liu will play the lead character, Wei Shen. The actor had previously played a martial arts hero in Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Although, for a long time after that, there was no further news on the adaptation—until Simu Liu, who plays Wei, teased on his X page that some good news about the Sleeping Dogs film might be coming soon, as you can check out his post below:

Beyond the strong casting choice so far, the film also has Timo Tjahjanto as its director, known for his work on The Night Comes for Us and Nobody 2, where he has revealed his capability for staging high-quality hand-to-hand combat. On the paper, that makes the adaptation of the 2012 video game genuinely intriguing.

Developed by United Front Games, Sleeping Dogs earned overwhelmingly positive reviews from both players and critics, and it's still considered one of the most underrated "GTA clones" out there. It features a great combat system, a deep storyline, parkour, an incredibly detailed atmosphere, and the spirit of Hong Kong triad action films. The developers had also been working on a sequel concept, featuring co-op mode, a new setting, and even a companion app, but financial troubles forced Square Enix to shut the project down, which left a lot of gamers disappointed.

The upcoming live-action Sleeping Dogs movie doesn’t have a release date yet.
