The new Borderlands 4 codes arrive during day nine of Gearbox’s seasonal campaign, which has steadily released daily rewards throughout the holiday period. SHiFT codes remain the primary method for distributing free in-game items across the Borderlands series, and Borderlands 4 has followed that pattern closely since launch. The current set includes two universal Vault Hunter skins and three Golden Keys spread across two separate codes.

In addition to these four codes, several previously released SHiFT codes remain active, offering a wide range of cosmetic items and additional Golden Keys. These include character-specific skins, seasonal cosmetics, and item packs introduced earlier in the year. While Gearbox routinely refreshes its code offerings, there is no guarantee that expired rewards will be reissued.

Golden Keys remain one of the most valuable SHiFT rewards in Borderlands 4. They can be redeemed at Golden Chests found throughout the game world, which consistently grant high-tier loot. While the contents of each chest are randomized, they often include Legendary-grade weapons or gear suitable for endgame builds. As a result, Golden Key codes tend to draw the most immediate attention from players, especially when tied to limited expiration windows.

The cosmetic rewards included in the latest release are usable across all Vault Hunters. “A Winter Borderland” skin reflects the seasonal theme of the Mercenary Day event, while “The World on His Shoulders” skin offers an additional visual option without gameplay impact. Unlike Golden Keys, these cosmetic codes carry a long expiration date, extending through the end of 2030.

Gearbox has distributed a high volume of SHiFT codes since Borderlands 4 launched, with a noticeable emphasis on Golden Keys. The approach mirrors previous entries in the series, where frequent code drops served both as engagement drivers and as a way to ease progression for new or returning players. Redeeming codes is optional, but once a code expires, it cannot be reclaimed.

The current four Borderlands 4 codes are part of a broader pool of active SHiFT rewards still available to players. Some older codes remain valid, offering additional skins, Echo-4 drone cosmetics, headgear, and item packs. While Golden Key codes typically expire within weeks or months, cosmetic items often remain claimable for years.

Players must redeem SHiFT codes through Gearbox’s SHiFT website. This requires a SHiFT account linked to the player’s platform account. Once redeemed, the rewards are permanently added to the player’s profile and can be claimed in-game. Cosmetics and Golden Keys obtained this way do not expire after redemption, even if the original code later becomes invalid.

The two Golden Key codes included in the latest drop expire on December 31, 2025. Players who want to secure those keys must redeem them before that date. The cosmetic codes, by contrast, remain valid until December 31, 2030, giving players ample time to claim them. Gearbox has not indicated whether these specific cosmetics will return in future promotions.

The continued cadence of SHiFT code releases comes at a transitional moment for Borderlands 4. Player counts have declined since the game’s launch window, placing added importance on live-service incentives and future content updates. Gearbox has already confirmed that the first downloadable content Vault Hunter, C4SH, is scheduled to release in early 2026. How that release performs may shape the game’s longer-term trajectory.
