Red Dead Redemption 2-uppdateringen för PS5 och Xbox Series X/S kan bli försenad på grund av GTA 6

Undoubtedly, the main release from Rockstar Games—and indeed the biggest anticipated title of 2026—is GTA 6, which is already available for pre-order on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles in both Standard and Ultimate editions. However, some fans are still eagerly awaiting an update for Red Dead Redemption 2 for the current generation of consoles, which is believed to be actively in development.

Back in February of this year, well-known insider NateTheHate reported that Rockstar Games was planning to release an update for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Red Dead Redemption 2. However, since then, the studio has yet to make any official announcement. Recently, a user reached out again to the insider for an update, to which NateTheHate responded with the following reply, which you can see below:

- Any update on RDR2 ps5 pro update?

- No

- I am starting to think it will never exist, we are 5 months away from GTA 6, such an update would have already been released if it were actually planned.

- Or plans changed once GTA6 maintained its release for Nov. The game can sit in a finished state & release whenever Rockstar needs/wants. If GTA were delayed, RDR2 could have been used to soften the blow. With no delay... they can hold RDR2 now.

It makes perfect sense that now, with the official launch of the GTA 6 marketing campaign—despite the absence of active promotional materials so far—Rockstar Games will focus their attention on this new project over the coming months. Therefore, it's possible that an update for Red Dead Redemption 2 on current-generation consoles could be released in early 2027. However, it might also come sooner, perhaps in September or October, especially considering that the game will celebrate its 8th anniversary on October 26.
