Resident Evil Zero Remake kommer att avslöja mer om vad som hände med Billy Coen
According to unofficial reports, Capcom is actively developing a remake of Resident Evil Zero, the original 2002 game that serves as a prequel to the very first franchise installment. It's recently come out that the remake’s development has been completely restarted, with Capcom's main team now in charge. Naturally, like all previous remakes, this reimagining of Resident Evil Zero is expected to bring significant gameplay changes and likely expand on the characters' storylines—which, as it happens, fits perfectly with one of the game's protagonists.
As we know, Resident Evil Zero's two leads are Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen. Unlike Rebecca, who also appeared in the original Resident Evil and got mentioned across several other entries, the fate of Billy Coen after the events of Zero has stayed largely a mystery—aside from a brief appearance as a playable character in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. It looks like the upcoming remake will finally reveal a lot more about what he's been up to since.
Well-known insider Marcox has revealed the upcoming Resident Evil Zero remake will include scenes showing what Billy Coen has been doing since the game's ending and how he's managed to stay off Umbrella's radar all these years. Citing Capcom leaks, Marcox also reports the game will dig deeper into James Marcus's conflict with the Ashford family and the origins of the T-virus—that will link the project with Resident Evil Veronica, set to release in 2027. You can check out Marcox's full report below:
“In the original game, Billy Quan's story ends with his separation from Rebecca Chambers in the woods after she promises to declare him dead in her official report, after which he disappears completely from the series. Leaks suggest that Capcom will add additional documentation or a cinematic scene hinting at Billy's next steps, including his attempts to evade pursuit by Umbrella Corporation and the military police. The dialogue will also be rewritten to delve deeper and more seriously into his tragic military past and the trumped-up charges against him, moving away from the previous, overly cinematic style.
Resident Evil Zero remake will also include new and expanded documentation and memoirs from James Marcus's labs detailing his initial research and rivalry with the Ashford family, setting the stage for understanding the origins of the T-Veronica virus and how it was combined with the insect queen's genes before the events of the Veronica remake begin.”
Marcox has also recently shared new details about the upcoming tenth Resident Evil installment. He claimed Capcom wants the anniversary title to be the scariest in the franchise's history and plans to introduce a new protagonist who might be mentored by Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield.
Resident Evil Veronica and the story DLC for Requiem remain the only confirmed franchise projects so far, both slated for release next year. Meanwhile, in its latest financial report, Capcom revealed total Resident Evil sales have now crossed 213 million copies.
