Tidigare utvecklare delade detaljer om den alternativa versionen av Uncharted 4
A few years before Naughty Dog released Uncharted 4: A Thief's End in the version we know today, it is known Amy Hennig led the game's development—she helped make the Uncharted trilogy and served as creative director and writer for the fourth installment. In 2014, she left Naughty Dog, and Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley—who had previously developed The Last of Us—took her place.
As it turned out, Hennig’s original vision for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End differed significantly from the game that was ultimately released. Former Naughty Dog VFX artist Matt Radford revealed details on this topic in a recent episode of the Kiwi Talkz podcast. As reported by Insider Gaming, he confirmed that Sam—Nathan Drake’s brother—was originally intended to be the game’s villain. He also stated Todd Stashwick was supposed to play the character before the role went to Troy Baker and discussed some technical aspects of the game’s early version. However, Radford also acknowledged Amy Hennig’s version of Uncharted 4 had potential, and he hopes she will delight players with her projects down the line. You can check out more details from the former developer below:
“Amy’s vision for the game that I saw didn’t have the same characters, like Sam, and I mean Sam was in it, but he was not the same guy. It was like a very different, very different; like Sam was the villain. There was a bunch of differences: different actor, and that actor used to hang around Naughty Dog. The original guy they had cast, he was really nice, and he works with Amy still on the Star Wars game.
I remember we built this green light demo for Uncharted 4 and it ran at like one FPS on like a PC. Like it was super early. It was just like crazy scrappy back then.
And Amy’s vision seemed cool. Like, to be honest, it seemed cool. But then again, Uncharted 4 was amazing. So, you know, you can’t kind of fault Neil and Bruce ’s vision because I loved that game and I loved the story they came up with.
I just want to see Amy have her comeback. You know, when are we going to get Amy’s games? She’s really talented.”
This isn't the first time we've heard about how the original version of Uncharted 4 differed from the final version. Earlier this spring, there were reports about Sam's villainous role and other actors who played characters in the game. What’s more, the game was also originally planned to include flashbacks to 1695, a cameo by Charlie Cutter from Uncharted 3: Drake’s Fortune, and survival elements such as fishing, building a fire, constructing a raft, and much more. Speaking of Amy Hennig, she’s now a creative director at Paramount Games Studio, and two projects she’s attached to are Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra and an untitled Star Wars title.
The fate of the new Uncharted game remains unknown for now, but rumors have been circulating this year about the potential Uncharted 5. Shaun Escayg, who previously worked on Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, is said to be taking the role of game director for the project. Nathan Drake is expected to appear in the game, but he won’t be the main character. Most likely, it will be his daughter, Cassie.
This summer, a data miner also revealed Naughty Dog had been developing a remake of the first Uncharted game, Drake's Fortune, but ultimately decided to make an enhanced The Last of Us instead.
