Publisher Bethesda added a new branch called "newvegas2" to the game Fallout 4, which may suggest a possible continuation of New Vegas Name

Fans of Fallout 4 have been left scratching their heads after a recent backend update on Steam, which added a new branch called "newvegas2". Although it is the type of change a developer might make in preparation for new content or a beta test, players are wondering if this means Bethesda is planning a sequel to Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas or a remastered version in Fallout 4's engine.

Bethesda deleted the branch the following day, perhaps to put an end to speculation. However, it seems that players are still wondering what the change could mean. The most likely explanation is that it is related to the Fallout 4 next-gen update announced by Bethesda, which will be released in 2023. The update will feature "performance mode features for high frame rates, quality features for 4K resolution gameplay, bug fixes and even bonus Creation Club content!"

The Skyrim Anniversary Edition, which was similarly updated, included 26 new creations, some of which referenced earlier Elder Scrolls games Morrowind and Oblivion. Therefore, it is possible that the "newvegas2" branch was named in honor of a new Creation Club pack themed around New Vegas. There is already a Creation in the store that adds an anti-materiel rifle from the NCR, so it seems likely that Bethesda is not averse to incorporating elements of Obsidian's Fallout game into their own.

While it is more likely that the new content will consist of a collection of gear and power armor paint jobs representing all the factions of the Mojave, the idea of a New Vegas sequel, even if it is released as Fallout 4 DLC, is appealing to many. Last year, Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart expressed his desire to create another Fallout game. Additionally, many fans would like to see a remastered version of New Vegas created with Fallout 4's engine. The Fallout 4: New Vegas mod is already doing this on a smaller scale, and the Project Mojave mod has recreated several New Vegas locations.

It is hoped that Bethesda has learned from the launch of Skyrim Anniversary Edition and that any new additions to Fallout 4's next-gen update will not cause issues for modders. Additionally, fans would appreciate more exciting new content from Bethesda. If you cannot wait for a hypothetical remaster, modders have created a guide to tweaking Fallout: New Vegas for the best possible experience.
