Electronic Arts has officially announced a major restructuring and revealed some of its plans for the future. The latest report also confirmed earlier rumors about the development of a new shooter within a well-known franchise, as well as which studios are officially involved in the development.

Variety has confirmed EA has brought in Respawn and DICE to develop a new game in the Star Wars Battlefront series —presumably the third installment. DICE has already released two games in the franchise, in 2015 and 2017, while Respawn has experience developing shooters (Titanfall, Apex Legends), as well as games set in a “galaxy far, far away” (Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor). Initial rumors about Battlefront 3 came from insider Jeff Grubb, who added that the game could be developed by DICE or Bungie (Destiny, Marathon). Joe Brammer, CEO of BULKHEAD and executive producer of Wardogs, suddenly shared an update, revealing DICE and Respawn are responsible for the game—which ultimately turned out to be true.

EA is reportedly bringing Star Wars Battlefront back.

DICE and Respawn are working together on a new Star Wars project, with reports saying it’s a new Battlefront game.

DICE developed the previous Battlefront games, while Respawn is behind Star Wars Jedi.

After nearly a decade, Battlefront could finally be returning.

No further news about Star Wars Battlefront 3 is available at this time, as the project is likely in a very early stage of development and is not expected to release in the coming years. Meanwhile, Electronic Arts has also announced the closure of BioWare, the studio known for Star Wars: Knights of the Republic, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect. Speaking of the latter, they also canceled the fifth game that was in the early development.
