Kingdom Come Deliverance kan äntligen få sin PS5-uppgradering

Kingdom Come: Deliverance might be getting a real PS5 version soon, and not just a patch. This matters because the original game has been held back for years by its weak console performance, even though Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has become one of the biggest RPG hits of the year. With millions of new players now familiar with Henry of Skalitz thanks to the sequel, the chance to revisit the first game on modern hardware is long overdue.

The first signs of a current-gen update for the original came from the Twitter account "PlayStation Game Size," which previously leaked accurate info about games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin's Creed before their announcements. Their post was short, saying only “Kingdom Come: Deliverance PS5 Version” followed by a green checkmark. In the comments, they confirmed that a native PS5 version is coming and that it won’t just be a patch on top of the PS4 build.

This kind of news usually spreads fast, and considering the way Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 exploded earlier this year, there’s no surprise. We covered that story in " Prime Minister Joins Kingdom Come Adventure " and " Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Hardcore Mode Is a Brutal Return to Old-School RPG Challenge " — and both pointed to the same trend: a wave of new players discovering the series for the first time.

Back in 2018, Kingdom Come: Deliverance was an ambitious RPG with real-time combat, brutal survival mechanics, and a grounded medieval world that felt different from everything else. But it launched with bugs, crashes, and long loading screens on consoles. Even though the game eventually built up a cult following on PC, its console version never fully recovered in terms of reputation. It sits at 72 on OpenCritic, which is far below what its world-building and systems deserved.

Fast-forward to 2025, and the picture has changed. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 dropped earlier this year and was an instant hit. It got a glowing 89 on OpenCritic, brought in 159,000 players on Steam at peak, and outperformed games like Stardew Valley and Red Dead Redemption 2 in day-one player numbers. It was the eighth-highest 24-hour peak on the entire platform, only sitting behind juggernauts like GTA V.

That kind of success does more than boost studio confidence. It brings attention to the older games in the series, even if those games weren’t perfect. A lot of players who picked up Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 never played the first game at all. And those who tried to go back ran into a problem right away: the old game just doesn’t run well on modern systems. The UI is clunky, framerate dips happen often, and bugs that were tolerable in 2018 feel outdated now.

A proper PS5 version could fix that. It could rebuild the experience for new fans who want to follow Henry’s story from the start. It also makes a lot of sense for Warhorse Studios, who now have a much larger audience to cater to. If the team drops the current-gen upgrade before the end of the year, they could potentially catch late adopters or players who come in through bundles and seasonal sales.

It’s also important that this isn’t just a performance patch. According to PlayStation Game Size, this will be a native version. That could mean shorter load times, better draw distance, reworked textures, and maybe even DualSense features for combat or travel. Even if none of that is confirmed yet, just having stable performance and modern resolution would be enough to draw a big chunk of the Kingdom Come 2 audience back into the first chapter.

The original game still holds up in its design. It has long dialogue trees, reputation systems, stamina-based swordplay, and an open world that doesn’t treat you like a superhero. There are no quest markers leading you by the hand. You mess up, you bleed. You steal, people remember. All of that is still rare even today, and for players who loved Kingdom Come 2, going back to where it all started will feel like a natural step.

No official announcement has been made by Warhorse Studios yet, but leaks like this usually point to backend store updates ahead of a reveal. If it does go live, expect it to hit the PlayStation Store first, maybe with a bundle or discount offer for those who own the sequel. There’s also the question of whether the Xbox Series X version will show up next, since that platform tends to lag behind when it comes to store listings.

For now, though, it’s clear the demand is there. The first game has unfinished business, and this could be the right moment to give it the modern support it deserves. With Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 still climbing the charts and earning new fans each week, bringing the original up to speed seems like a no-brainer.

Henry’s story isn’t just a one-off anymore. It’s part of a bigger RPG franchise now. If the original finally gets a proper PS5 release, it’ll finally play the way it was meant to—no loading screen waits, no crashes, no stutters. Just an honest medieval grind, updated for a new audience.
