XDefiant-skaparen tror att spelet fortfarande kan komma tillbaka – men det är upp till Ubisoft

In May 2024, Ubisoft also decided to bet on a multiplayer shooter with a free-to-play model and released the game XDefiant. Not all such projects can boast long-term success, and Ubisoft's creation became one of them. As a result, in June of last year, XDefiant servers were shut down.

Nevertheless, the game's creator, Mark Rubin, believes that a potential return of XDefiant, or, if you like, a 'rebirth from the ashes' for the game, remains possible. However, he clarified that the final word rests with Ubisoft. He stated this while communicating with one of the X users.

- Is there ANY hope of XDefiant servers being brought back up? I understand the cost of running them, but the game is sooooooo missed

- I miss it too! That would be up to Ubisoft I imagine they could if they wanted to but I think they have a lot going on right now staying afloat.

Currently, Ubisoft is going through not the best of times. At the beginning of the year, the studio announced a major restructuring, during which several projects were canceled, including the remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, and many departments laid off a significant number of employees. Nevertheless, the developers are working on a lot of projects, including Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced and the yet-to-be-announced remake of Rayman Legends, which are set to be released this year, as well as Far Cry 7, a remake of Splinter Cell, and a new installment of Ghost Recon. Considering their plans, they are hardly thinking about XDefiant right now.

By the way, after the closure of XDefiant, Mark Rubin announced that he is ending his career in the gaming industry. In addition to Ubisoft's online shooter, he also worked as an executive producer on various Call of Duty installments.
