NetEase överväger att sälja Quantic Dream, medan Star Wars Eclipse befinner sig i ett "utvecklingshelvete"

In recent weeks, there has been a lot of news about Quantic Dream and their upcoming project, Star Wars Eclipse, which was announced back in 2021. Unfortunately, most of this news is negative, and a new report adds even more fuel to the fire in this regard.

Speaking on the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, Executive Editor at Insider Gaming Mike Straw revealed that Star Wars Eclipse is literally in “development hell,” which previous reports had hinted at. But the game’s problems don’t end there. NetEase, the parent company of Quantic Dream, is considering selling the studio and is already looking for potential buyers. Moreover, he stated that a game showcase should not be expected anytime soon, hinting at State of Play or Summer Game Fest.

Last month, it became known that the development of Star Wars Eclipse has been going on for 8 years, and the project was originally supposed to be released much earlier. In addition, Quantic Dream announced the closure of their online shooter Spellcasters Chronicles, which, it is reported, was supposed to be a support for future funding of the Star Wars game. Now, the fate of the game is literally in question, and the potential cancellation of the project, especially considering the sale of Quantic Dream, could be quite likely.

Nevertheless, according to the FivesWalker, work on Star Wars Eclipse is still ongoing, even though the pace of development leaves much to be desired. The source also revealed details of the game's plot: we can expect three main characters—a young Jedi, a girl who does not possess the Force, and her adoptive grandfather. As with the studio's previous projects, Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human, the story will be shown from different perspectives, and the choices you make will have consequences.

On the same Insider Gaming podcast, Tom Henderson, in turn, said that Star Wars: Jedi 3 is in development, which will show an older version of Cal Kestis. Moreover, he teased that the official announcement may take place at the Summer Game Fest (June 5-8).
