Opening Night Live, held a few days ago as the kickoff to Gamescom 2026, brought a good number of new game and expansion announcements. The biggest one was a new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt called Songs of the Past, and the first gameplay footage and details have already started rolling in.

It's been confirmed that Songs of the Past takes place after Blood and Wine, an expansion that seemed to close out Geralt's story but apparently doesn't. The developers also confirmed you'll need to have finished both the main game and the two previous expansions, Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone, before playing the new DLC. It's set in a region called Letten, Dandelion's homeland, and you can check out a first look at the gameplay below:

One of the biggest changes in Songs of the Past involves combat, with Geralt gaining the chain he wielded in the books, letting him pull enemies toward him. The debut trailer offered a first glimpse of the weapon, and a follow-up gameplay clip has since shown off more of what it can do.

Among other confirmed details, Songs of the Past introduces Lilla, Dandelion's cousin, with whom Geralt will apparently be able to pursue a romance. Players can also expect a batch of new quests, new monsters along the way, and new Gwent cards. A Steam page for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt—Songs of the Past has already gone live, complete with system requirements, listed below:

Songs of the Past wasn't CD Projekt RED's only announcement at Opening Night Live, either. It's set to launch next month and will be free for everyone who already owns the original game.
