The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastrad och Songs of the Past tillkännagavs på öppningskvällen Live
The headline announcement at Gamescom's Opening Night Live came from CD Projekt RED, focused on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a game now over 11 years old. The developers not only revealed the first footage of the upcoming DLC but also announced something major coming to the original game itself next month.
The Polish studio's first reveal was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, an enhanced version packed with new features. The developers have improved textures, the combat system, enemy behavior, added new moves, and reworked the leveling system to look better, among other changes. The remastered edition will be free for all owners of the original game, will include every DLC, and launches September 29. You can check out the debut trailer shown at Opening Night Live below:
As for Songs of the Past, the new DLC for the third entry, CD Projekt RED didn't spend as much time on it as some expected. Still, the first trailer confirmed Geralt will get a new weapon, a chain, and fans have already started comparing him to Scorpion from Mortal Kombat. The chain actually appeared in the books originally, so this marks its first appearance in the games. The developers also confirmed Songs of the Past takes place in a new region, Letten, Dandelion's homeland, roughly comparable in size to Blood and Wine, meaning it should be fairly substantial, with plenty of quests and other content. CD Projekt RED also confirmed this will be the final Geralt-focused DLC, effectively passing the torch to Ciri going forward.
The exact release date for Songs of the Past is still unknown, though it's confirmed for 2027 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. According to CD Projekt RED, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is meant to give returning players a chance to refresh their memory before diving into the new DLC, while also serving as a great entry point for newcomers, essentially making one of the best games ever made even better. As for The Witcher 4, the studio previously confirmed it wouldn't appear at Gamescom this year, with a planned release sometime in 2028.
